I have 89 songs (498MB) and im trying to burn it to a 700mb disc, every time ive burnt it the music will not play on anything, How do i do this properly?
Using Windows Media Player
Step 1 If Windows Media Player did not come with your computer, download it from the Internet and follow the installation instructions.
Step 2 Click on "Library," then "List," then "Burn List."
Step 3 Click and drag the songs that you want on your playlist from the "Contents" window to the "List" window.
Step 4 Move the songs up and down the list, once you have selected the songs that you want to burn. Think about the order that you want them to appear on the CD.
Step 5 Put a blank CD-R or CD-RW into your CD drive on your computer.
Step 6 Check that all of the songs you’ve picked will fit on your blank CD. You can take songs off the list by right-clicking on the song and then clicking on the "Remove From List" menu option.
Step 7 Click "Start Burn." Make sure you have selected "Audio CD" as the format for the CD that you want to burn. A "Data CD" will not play in a CD player.
Using iTunes
Step 1 Download iTunes and follow the installation instructions.
Step 2Make a playlist. Click on the plus symbol or click on "File" and "New Playlist." Arrange the music in the order that you want it to appear on the CD.
Step 3 Make sure your settings are correct. Click "Edit," "Preferences" and then "Burning." Select the highest burning speed possible. If the disc you burn doesn’t play correctly, burn it again at a slower speed.
Step 4 Select the "Audio CD" format and put a blank CD into your computer’s drive.
Step 5 Pick the playlist that you created and click on the burn icon, located in the upper, right hand corner of the window.

you will not be able to burn that many songs to a CD in a format that your CD player will read. MP3 is the only way. That means you will have to compromise. Use something like iTunes (I’ve had bad experiences with windows media player) to burn it. You WILL need more than 2 discs for that though. You will use less discs if you use a lower quality audio but I wouldn’t recommend it.

You need a CD player that plays mp3 files or discs. Also, you have to make sure that when you are burning the disk, you are choosing to "finalize" the disc or it can’t be played on anything except your cd burner.

you will only get about 20 records on a 700mb cd, burn as mp3 audio format

Burn an MP3 CD or Audio CD (works for only a few songs) by getting Nero.

Use Windows Media Player. Bet you already have it. Put the songs in the library. Double click on the burn tab, select audio cd. Drag the play list to the pane on the right. Insert a cd-r and click burn. Few things you should be aware of. You can only burn 80 minutes worth of music on a 700mb cd. WMP will add 2 seconds to each song. I use the cheapest cd-r discs I can find. Have not had a problem to date playing these discs on anything and I mean anything. WMP will tell you that the 89 songs will not fit on one disc. The only way around this is, like the other posting said, use a player that will accept an mp3 format. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

To compile several answers into one. .
The 89 songs / 498 Mb are a compressed format, most likely mp3.
If the disk is finalized it should play on a computer as mp3 is the most common compressed format.
Older CD players (car or stereo) do not recognize and play mp3 format disks.
***The tracks need to be in wav format***.
If using a burning app such as Windows Media Player select "audio CD" as the format to burn too.
The mp3 files will be automatically converted to wav but there will be a limit of 18 – 20 tracks depending on song length.
Another alternative is to convert the tracks from mp3 to wav with this app from Koyote Soft:

Then compile and burn using one of these free apps:

http://filehippo.com/download_cdburnerxp/
Burn at a maximum speed of 24x to reduce the chance of errors during the burn process.
Use only CD-R disks.
CD-RW disks, although they can be re-used are designed for computer use and can be played on very few CD players.
