What is the best on line site for downloading music and videos onto my PC for personal use?

Friday, November 6th, 2009

I haven’t done this since 2003.

Thanks for your help!
Ugh! I can’t decide which one to vote for!

for me the best way to download music and small clips in any format wav,mp3,wmv,avi,mpeg etc.. or other is by using p2p like limewire or frostwire and using bittorrent for bigger size movies if you prefer the "FREE" one. but be sure to have good protection in downloading files because some files might contain viruses and spywares. and this files also came from other people who also use p2p softwares. the more people who share the faster it downloads.

How do I add music (cassettes) into Yahoo Music Jukebox via line-in or microphone to rip to MP3?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

I want to transfer audio cassettes into digital format to make cd’s of them. Realplayer had this option but sucked! All my college lectures I want to make MPs’s of. Someone please help! Thanks

I have used ‘Audacity’ and ‘Magix Audio Cleaning lab’ – the principles are probably the same for Jukebox…here are my instructions:
Put simply, you will need to connect your cassette player to your PC soundcard, then play the cassette whilst recording on your PC.
A step-by-step guide is available at:
http://www.cassette2cd.co.uk/diy/index.php – screen-shots and photos to make it easy to follow.
- click the link to ‘cassette to CD’
The recording software is the key, there are some free software downloads available at:
http://www.cassette2cd.co.uk/downloads.php
I have used ‘Magix Audio Cleaning Lab’ and ‘Audacity’ – Audacity is particularly popular since it is free!
If you record to WAV format, expect file sizes of around 10MB per minute, or 1MB per minute for MP3 (at 128kbps).
Once you have your digital versions of the recording on your PC, simply burn them on to a CD (Nero burning software or similar..). If you use Magix Audio Cleaning, the software will burn an audio CD for you without needing additional software (assuming you have a CD writing drive of course!)
You can also download a free PDF version of the step-by–step guide from the download page mentioned above, the guide is complete with diagrams.
Hope this helps

How can I legally share my entire music collection on-line?

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

I want to set up a website so I can access my entire music collection over the internet.

Then I got to thinking if could share it with others, I could easily drive traffic and maybe make some money from advertising.

I realize this brings copyright laws into play…

How should I approach this and what can I expect to pay for Blanket Licenses?

PS — thank you, but I only want to approach this legally.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* How to License Your Million Dollar Idea: Everything You Need To Know To Turn a Simple Idea into a Million Dollar Payday, 2nd Edition by Harvey Reese
* Essentials of Licensing Intellectual Property by Alexander I. Poltorak, Paul J. Lerner
* The Licensing Business Handbook, Fifth Edition by Karen Raugust

I posted some relevant copyright related links below.

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

what does the squiggly line mean in sheet music?

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

I’ve come across this in a few piano pieces. It’s pretty much like this ~ on top of the staff before a note. It’s more swirly at either end, like an inverted and turned ’s’
yup, it’s a turn, thanks!

It sounds like you’re describing a turn. The definition can be found on the page below, about 3/4 of the way down. If not, then you will be able to match the symbol with one of the symbols on this page.

What is the best consumer line camcorder for recording live music?

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

I would like to record musicians / bands and create videos but do not have a large budget to draw from. Is there a consumer line camcorder that provides better quality and features for downloading video to a computer for editing without breaking the bank? Thanks for your help.

Get a cheap miniDV cam with a mic port and get a shotgun mic such as the rode videomic that uses 1/8" minplugs instead of XLR. Hope this helps!

Can you use a song that you wrote the music & co wrote the lyrics and melody line, after the band splits?

Friday, October 16th, 2009

I wrote a song with someone, which I wrote the music for, and we co wrote the lyrics and melody line together. She has now left the band and I was wondering, can I perform the song in public with a different singer, as she technically walked out on the band. How much of the song would I have to change, if any to be able to use it in public?

It would be better to be on the safe side,..

Do you hold a copyright,.? If the copyright be in your name only,..
you should do as you pleases,..If you published the darn thing,..you may require permission from the publisher,..If the copyright be in your and the former partner’s name you may require his well wishes,.
er, permission,..

But, what the heck,..! Talk it over with him,,.he wont bite you,..That’s
a joke,.?! But ask anyway,..ask the publisher also,..you may need to
sign a notice of use and pay performance / use royalties,..

As, I stated; be on the safe side,..
