is downloading music off the internet for free illegal?

I thought it was, but I’ve heard that it’s only illegal if you download it and then sell it.

It’s illegal on the same level that walking into a music store and taking a CD without paying for it is illegal.

The musician made the music and wants to sell it.

The music company produced the music and wants to sell it.

When someone comes along and steals their stuff, well, that’s pretty much illegal.
