    The two main causes …
    The two main causes for this are:

    1. that the neck is convex and requires a truss rod adjustment, and

    2. that you are striking the strings at such a downward angle that they are hitting the fret board.

    Try to get the strings to vibrate parallel to the fretboard. This is a SECRET TIP which will also get you a better sound ;-)

    This lesson is absolutely great, I had a bass collecting dust that I purchased nine years ago when I was 12, tried having someone teach me and they got frustrated so I gave up but I decided tonight to pick it back up again and your lessons make it easy for anyone to learn even someone like me who is a lefty who plays righty and has no experience musically. Great stuff, I will definitely be following along with your videos.
